On March 19, Ukrainian citizen Volodymyr Mynko, charged with robbing and murdering US Peace Corps volunteer, Viktor Verlow, was sentenced to death by the Chernihiv Regional Court. The crime was committed on the night of September 13-14, 1998, when Mynko, assisted by an accomplice who knew the victim personally, got into the apartment that he rented in Chernihiv. Mynko stabbed to death Verlow, an economic development adviser at the support Centre for public organizations, and took from the apartment money and equipment worth over 5,000 hryvnyas.
