On May 18 when a group of men abducted a 36-year-old Chechen named Sinbarigov, who some villagers said worked for Russia's Federal Security Service. The next day, his head was found on a stick next to the village administration building, according to Memorial. The Chechen rebels' Web site said the man was executed because he had helped the Russian authorities.
