On October 12, 19 political dissidents and 104 inmates were executed in Abu Ghurayb prison, the Iraqi Communist Party said in a statement issued on October 25. The Party's Human Rights Center, based in the Kurdish-held town of Shaqlawa in northern Iraq, named all 19 political dissidents, saying they were mainly from Baghdad and the mainly Shiite Muslim southern governorates of Basra and Kerbala. The other alleged victims were of people convicted of crimes such as murder and robbery.
