On September 22, 11 people were executed in Abu Ghurayb prison in Baghdad. The statement by the Human Rights Bureau of the Iraqi Communist Party based in the Kurdish-held town of Shaqlawa in northern Iraq mentioned the names of the 11 people who were executed and said that 3 of them were from Kirkuk and the remainder from Amarah. They had spent 8 years in jail after an uprising in March 1991. President Saddam Hussein's Government refused to comment on such accusations and there is no way to get independent confirmation.
