On October 6, lawyer Saleh al-Armouti said Jordan's state security prosecutor pressed new charges against detained leaders of the Palestinian militant group Hamas that could carry the death sentence. Armouti said Khaled Meshal and Ibrahim Ghosheh had been charged with possession of assault rifles and a bomb, and with forgery and fraud. "These new charges have transformed the case from one dealing with misdemeanors to one dealing with felonies that could carry death sentences," Armouti said.
