On September 20, Yili Prefectural Intermediate People's Court held a public trial in Yining County to pass judgment on 22 terrorists guilty of "violent terrorist activities." Abulimiti Gulahong, Ajimu Yidayeti and Nusilaiti Mairoufu were sentenced to death; Yakufu Tuoerjin, Halimaimaiti Silamu, and Sulafuli Ismail were sentenced to death with a 2-year reprieve; the other 16 received prison sentences of different duration. After the public trial, in accordance with the death sentence order signed by the regional people's higher court, Ajimu Yidayeti, Abulimiti Gulahong, and Nusilaiti Mairoufu were escorted to the execution ground to be put to death by firing squad.
