On September 21, 3 Pakistanis identified as Alef Jan, 37, Ibrahim Khan, 35, and Rais Khan, 27 appeared before a criminal court in Dhaka to face trial and possibly the death penalty on charges of smuggling heroin into Bangladesh. Anti-narcotics agents arrested the 3 men in a city hotel overnight and seized more than 24kg of heroin worth $5 million, which had presumably been destined for Europe via Bangladesh.
