According to a supervising jail official, 56 have been awarded the death sentence by the Sindh High Court (SHC), two were awarded by the Federal Shariat Court, and 42 by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
According to the official, mercy petitions of all these criminals are pending with President of Pakistan. 32 belonged to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). Forty others, he said, were involved in kidnapping for ransom cases and murder.
