PAKISTAN. CONVICTION OF LJ ACTIVISTS IN SECTARIAN KILLING CASE SET ASIDE

the Sindh High Court (SHC), Pakistan, set aside the convictions to four activists of the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi group after acquitting them of charges of sectarian killing. Mohammad Ajmal alias Akram Lahori, Attaullah, Mohammad Azam and Malik Tassaduq Hussain had been convicted by an anti terrorism court in Karachi after being found guilty of killing six worshipers and injuring five others at Imambargah Ali Murtaza in the Mehmoodabad area of Karachi on October 4, 2001. Attaullah and Azam had been sentenced to death and Akram Lahori and Tassaduq had been awarded life sentences on August 19, 2003. However, the SHC, observed in its judgment that the prosecution had failed to prove its case against the appellants and acquitted them of all charges.
