Pakistan: man sentenced to death for killing mother in KP

A court in Peshawar has convicted a man and sentenced him to death for stabbing his mother to death over three years ago, Dawn reported on September 16, 2026.

Additional session judge Rafiullah pronounced that the prosecution had proved its case against the accused, Imtiaz, and an absconder, Tahir.

He sentenced Imtiaz to death under Section 302(b) of the Pakistan Penal Code and directed him to pay Rs500,000 as compensation to the legal heirs of the deceased, Taj Bibi.

The court referred a murder reference to the Peshawar High Court under Section 364 of the Code of Criminal Procedure for confirmation of the death sentence.

It noted that the records revealed that sufficient incriminating material was available on file connecting absconder Tahir with the commission of the offence.

The court declared that despite initiation of the prescribed legal process, Tahir failed to appear before it and had deliberately evaded arrest and trial.

It declared him a proclaimed offender and ordered mentioning his name in the register of proclaimed offenders.

The FIR of the murder was registered at the Inqilab police station in Peshawar on Aug 1, 2023.

The complainant in the FIR was Tajur Rehman, husband of the deceased.

He told the police that they were present at home when his son, Imtiaz, came along with his friend, Tahir, and started asking Taj Bibi for money.

The complainant added that on her refusal, Imtiaz stabbed his mother with a knife multiple times.

He added that when he tried to stop the accused, his accomplice, Tahir, asked him at gunpoint to stay away.

Mr Rehman said that his wife died on the way to the hospital.

Senior public prosecutor Mohammad Sikandar Khan appeared for the state and argued that the evidence on record clearly connected the accused Imtiaz with the commission of the offence.

He argued that the complainant in the FIR was a witness to the murder.

The prosecutor added that the accused had killed his mother in a brutal manner, so he didn’t deserve leniency.
