PAKISTAN. TWO DEATH SENTENCES FOR MURDER COMMUTED

the Lahore High Court, Pakistan, commuted to life imprisonment the death sentences given to two men for murder and reduced the sentence of two women convicted in the same trial. The four had been accused of murdering a woman, Sarwat Masih. The Lahore additional district and sessions judge had awarded the death sentence to Wilson Kamal and Nasir Bhatti, and one-year imprisonment each to Salma Bibi and Teresa Bibi for the murder. The counsel for the convicted men argued that the men had been minors at the time of the murder, and so were ineligible for the death penalty.
