Pennsylvania is the only state in the Northeastern United States to have an execution since the death penalty was reinstated. Pennsylvania has had three executions in all, including one this year. On July 6, Gary Michael Heidnik, the "House of Horrors" killer convicted of torturing and murdering two women in the basement of his Philadelphia home a decade ago, was put to death by lethal injection. All three executions were of inmates who waived their appeals.
