Peter Raben, the attorney for Pablo Ibar, a Spaniard on death row in Florida, plans to appeal the sentence against his client. News of the decision came during a Madrid press conference held by Candido Ibar, Pablo's father. Should the appeal be admitted, Pablo Ibar, who was convicted of a triple homicide in 1994 and sentenced to die, will have the right to a new trial. Ibar's first trial, held in 1997, resulted in a hung jury. Tried again, he was found guilty and sentenced to death, which landed him on death row at the state penitentiary in Starke, where he has been since Dec. 11, 2000. Ibar has maintained his innocence in the slayings of nightclub owner Casimir Sucharski and two models in the city of Miramar, north of Miami.
