PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan warned of "tragedies" if the Turkish authorities did not tackle the "essence" of the Kurdish problem. In a statement released through his lawyers, Ocalan warned that "if the insistence on a lack of solution continues, it is evident that self-defence will manifest itself". "The world is progressing towards peace, but Turkey is busy with the discussion on whether to hang Ocalan. If the goal is unity, integrity and stability, the politicians should discuss the essence of the [Kurdish] problem alongside their proposals for a solution in parliament. From the onset, I said: If it will contribute to the solution of the problem, I am even ready to die," Ocalan said.
