human rights groups called on the Papua New Guinea government to abolish the death penalty. Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch wrote an open letter to PNG's Attorney General Allan Marrat. Andrew Beswick from Amnesty International said "the death penalty is an irreversible form of justice and it doesn't allow for the fallibility of the criminal justice system," he said.
