Police in Nigeria's Enugu state arrested the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Nsukka and seven of his men over the alleged murder of Nnaemeka Ugwoke and Izuchukwu Ayogu, both former students of Nsukka high school.
The senior police officer had allegedly arrested the deceased students for undisclosed offences on March 10 and ordered their killing in the wee hours of the night.
The extra-judicial execution triggered violent demonstrations at the University town of Nsukka.
The arrest followed the discovery of the victims' decomposing bodies after a police officer who had participated in the heinous crime confessed and led investigators to the spot the corpses had been dumped.
