President Joseph Estrada said that he wanted the two soldiers, Marcial Ambulo and Jovy Rubio, who shot dead six innocent civilians in Mindoro Oriental, to be meted the death penalty for their crime. During his weekly radio program, the president said the perpetrators deserved no mercy because they had tarnished the good image of the military. "The justice system will make sure they get the death penalty. Our military is starting to regain the trust of the people when they committed the crime. This is a sad development," Estrada said.
