Presidential aspirant Eduardo "Bro. Eddie" Villanueva told members of the Anvil Executive Group, composed of young Chinese-Filipino businessmen, that he was in favour of the death penalty for kidnappers. Mr. Villanueva cited a verse in the Old Testament - Exodus chapter 21, verse 16 - to justify his position on the issue. The said verse states: "Anyone who abducts a man - whether he has sold him or is found in possession of him - must die." This was received by members of the Anvil Executive Group with applause. Mr. Villanueva, however, emphasized that it was only when the kidnap cases were beyond reasonable doubt that he would support the execution of the kidnap convicts.
