RCD-Goma authorities denied they executed soldiers and policemen arrested during the mutiny in Kisangani - the Congolese town under the RCD-Goma (Congolese Rally for Democracy, supported by Rwanda) and accused the Kinshasa government of waging a campaign against their movement.
"No, they were not executed. This information is unfounded. The mutineers who died were killed resisting our forces which were trying to subdue the mutiny and restore order in the town. Kinshasa propagandists are the ones speaking of extrajudiciary execution with the aim of demonizing".
RCD-Goma interim president Moise Nyarugabo said some 15 ANC (Congolese National Army) soldiers died while fighting the mutineers.
"It is therefore not surprising that that mutineers also died during the fighting", he said. About 15 mutineers have been captured since the beginning of the mutiny which took place on 14 May.
Nyarugabo said that " the security of the captured mutineers was guaranteed. They are being interrogated in the framework of RCD's investigations on the mutiny."
