The chief of staff of slain Congolese President Laurent Kabila was charged with helping mastermind his assassination, and 80 others were charged with plotting the murder, family and officials said.
Laurent Kabila's personal chief of staff, Colonel Eddy Kapend, and at least 80 other people have been detained for more than 13 months at Kinshasa's central prison under heavy guard by Zimbabwean troops. Kapend's younger half-brother, Denis Kayenge, said Kapend, 60, was accused of being an "author or co-author" of the plot. If found guilty, he could face the death penalty.
Congo's state prosecutor confirmed the trial would go ahead before a military tribunal on March 15, but gave no further details.
The late president of the Democratic Republic of Congo was gunned down by a bodyguard in his palace in January 2001.
