Regarding the executions which took place in Lebanon on January 17, Jacque Sarraf, former president of the Lebanese Industrialists' Association said: "After hearing the statements made by the executed and their family members, one cannot help but feel sorry. Surely it was very painful for the victims' families and loved ones who were seeking an end to their anguish and frustrations; however, it has been equally painful to the opposite parties. This proves that killing is not the right solution to killing; an eye for an eye sounds primitive." In a statement issued a day after the executions, Sheikh Abdel-Amir Qabalan, the vice-president of the Higher Shiite Council, said "Implementing capital punishment will only complicate the problem, rather than tackle the causes that stimulate such acts."
