Relatives of the 58 Chinese migrants who died suffocated in a lorry on ferry-crossing to the United Kingdom were expressing hopes that the driver who deliberately closed the air vent, Perry Wacker, would be sentenced to death. Mrs Zhang [not her real name], whose husband died, said: "I want to see the driver sentenced to death with my own eyes, on the television. But most of all I want the Snakeheads [people smugglers] linked to this case to be punished. The local officials turn a deaf ear. And when we ask the local police to arrest the Snakeheads, they just say `you find them, and we will arrest them'."Wacker was found guilty of 58 counts of manslaughter and of conspiracy to smuggle illegal immigrants into Britain and got a 14-year prison term.
