Roel Goosen, 33, was sentenced to death by the Lusaka High Court after he was convicted of killing Lillian Nkhata on August 30, 2001 during a prayer meeting in Lusaka's Barlastone area.
In the judgment, High Court Judge Zikonda said that over 20 people had gathered for prayers at a house on that night. Goosen was seen with a gun kneeling near the house outside.
Judge Zikonda said when the people who were worshipping in the house were alerted about a man with a gun they all fled. Lillian and some of her friends were hiding from Goosen in the bedroom when he shot through the door killing her instantly.
The motive behind the killing was not known.
