State Duma security committee chairman Vladimir Vasiliyev said he supported the idea of abolishing the death penalty in Russia. "The death penalty should be abolished in Russia. Sooner or later, the moratorium should result in the abolition of the death penalty as such," Vasiliyev told a news conference.
