RUSSIA. "NO MAJORITY SUPPORT" FOR DEATH PENALTY ABOLITION, KOSACHEV

according to Konstantin Kosachev, head of the State Duma committee for international affairs, there was no majority support in Russia for the abolition of the death penalty.
"A majority for the ratification of the agreement on the abolition of the death penalty does not exist in the State Duma," Kosachev said.
"There are at present in Russia approximately 1,000 people for whom the death penalty has been handed down," Kosachev noted, adding that "we are talking about recidivists, with an average of three murders apiece". Kosachev added that he thought the issue of abolition of the death penalty was "not an issue for political parties but an issue of a man's moral standpoint".
