Sanaa's criminal court condemned four Yemenis to death, three of them in absentia, for murder.
The four men, who are all from the same tribe, were convicted of killing a shopkeeper by stabbing and shooting him as they tried to rob him in December 1998.
Faisal al-Shayif, the one defendant who was present to hear the verdict, said he would appeal against the ruling.
