Sergey Mironov, Speaker of the Federation Council (the upper house of the Russian parliament) voiced his support for the moratorium on the death penalty. He called the death penalty "an anachronism".
"Emotionally, I understand people who think the cancellation of the death penalty is impossible, however, I think that a life sentence without parole is more dreadful than the killing of criminals who took away the most sacred thing - a human life," Mironov concluded.
