Seven Nigerians convicted of holding up a bank in Jeddah were executed. The Interior Ministry identified the executed as Shaykh Luqman Muhammad Awl, Adishno Abd-al-Wasi, Taj-al-Din Adibayo Luwal, Bayu Ibrahim Bulhan, Niyar Mubarak Wayl, Abd-al-Fattah Ulsjin Amos and Uthman Muhammad Ibrahim. The executions were carried out in public in the forecourt of the Al-Juffali Mosque in Jeddah. The ministry said the seven executed had stolen a car to rob the bank, where they threatened and injured the employees with meat cleavers. Following the execution, the Interior Ministry reaffirmed the government's determination to protect the country's security and stability by imposing strict punishment on criminals. It warned that those who try to tamper with the Kingdom's security would be meted out with punishments sanctioned by the Shariah. Human rights groups said the accused did not get fair trials. It was believed to be the largest execution in the country since 1980.
