Seven people who, disguised as soldiers, had stolen guns and cars and killed 19 people in the southwestern province of Yunnan, were executed.
The gang was sentenced to death at a public trial before a crowd of 20,000 people in Kunming, the Yunnan capital, for multiple crimes during a reign of terror between April 1997 and May 2000. The gang members were identified as Yang Tianyong, Xiao Lin, Yang Mingcai, Teng Diandong, Xiao Li, Zuo Shuguang and Chai Guoli.
