Seychelles abolished the death penalty for all crimes in 1993. The Constitution of the Republic of Seychelles (1993) at Art. 15 states: "A law shall not provide for a sentence of death to be imposed by any court."
On December 19, 2016 Seychelles abstained on the Resolution on a Moratorium on the Use of the Death Penalty at the UN General Assembly. They voted in favor in 2014, as in 2012. They were absent in 2010, 2008 and 2007.
