Seychelles abolished the death penalty for all crimes in 1993. The Constitution of the Republic of Seychelles (1993) at Art. 15 states: "A law shall not provide for a sentence of death to be imposed by any court."
On December 19, 2016 Seychelles abstained on the Resolution on a Moratorium on the Use of the Death Penalty at the UN General Assembly. They voted in favor in 2014, as in 2012. They were absent in 2010, 2008 and 2007 as in 2018.
