Shaikh Amjad was hanged till death in Karachi Central Prison, Pakistan, on the orders of the Anti-Terrorism Court in Karachi. He had been convicted of kidnapping lawyer Shakir Latif, his next-door neighbour, for ransom and later killing him with poison on October 3, 2001. His appeal against conviction had been rejected by Sindh High Court on April 22, 2002. The Supreme Court also upheld the conviction of the trial court by rejecting his appeal on April 4, 2003. Presidential clemency was refused on February 19, 2004.
