Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Qasimi, Deputy Director of the Ras Al Khaimah Court, ordered the release of 24-year-old Khalid Mohammed Ahmed Al Mullah after prominent human rights activist Ansar Burney paid "diya" (blood money) of Dh 170,000. Al Mullah, a Pakistani, had spent 10 years on death row for murder. Burney said he believed Al Mullah, then 13, was peeling an apple as three other boys were playing near him. One boy fell on him, and the knife went through his chest. But Col. Sheikh Talib bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ras Al Khaimah Police Chief, said investigations had proved that Al Mullah had deliberately killed 14-year-old Wisam Nabeel Abdul Aziz following a fight.
