Sherman Craver, convicted for the 1993 killing of police officer Connie Hawkins and his ex-girlfriend Marie Bates, no longer faces death by lethal injection. Craver, 58, was granted a new sentencing hearing in Delaware County Court and given two consecutive life terms under an agreement worked out by his defense attorney and the Delaware County District Attorney's office. Craver was entitled to a new hearing on the penalty phase because of evidence, including an extensive history of mental health problems and institutionalization, discovered after the trial.
