SILENCE IN RESPECT FOR VICTIMS OF ATTACK ON USA

Europe will observe silence today in solidarity and respect for the victims of the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon in United States.
Hands Off Cain and the Radical Party will stand in front of the American Embassy in Rome to participate in this initiative.
“In these past years we have often demonstrated in front of the American Embassy to protest against the death penalty. In doing so, we have never been motivated by an anti-American sentiment. On the contrary we have often denounced those who used the death penalty to fuel hate and anti-American policies,” HOC secretary Sergio D’Elia said.
“When Italy and Europe moved to save Rocco Barnabei for instance, we reminded everyone that in countries like China, Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen and Cuba there are many more ‘Barnabeis’ who are being put to death amidst general indifference. For one American ‘Barnabei’, of whom we learnt thanks to American democracy, transparency, free press and guarantees, every year there are thousands of others, unknown and defenceless, for whom nobody lifts a finger.
“If its true that the death penalty is unacceptable in a democracy, it’s also true that only a democracy can abolish the death penalty. Today, more than ever, we stand side by side with the United States, so that - through American democracy - the hopes of those who fight for liberty, justice and human rights in any part of the world where these are trampled, can be safeguarded,” D’Elia declared.
