Sinan Aygun, the Chairman of Ankara Chamber of Commerce (ATO), said that Karen Fogg, the European Union (EU) Commission's Representative to Turkey, mentioned death sentence during the meeting.
Fogg told him that existence of capital punishment constituted an obstacle before cooperation with the EU on terrorism issue. Aygun said Fogg told him that if death sentence in Turkey is lifted, Turkey's opportunities to make cooperation with the EU on terrorism issue will increase. Fogg said they don't make cooperation with Turkey and extradite the criminals as there is capital punishment in Turkey.
"Fogg said proposal of Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit for 30 years imprisonment terms instead of capital punishment should be supported as an 'excellent solution'," Aygun said.
