SINGAPORE. NO PLANS TO CHANGE DEATH PENALTY BY HANGING

Singapore said it would continue to execute convicted criminals by hanging amid growing international criticism over its use of the death penalty to deter crime like murder and drug trafficking.
In a statement to parliament, Home Affairs Minister Wong Kan Seng said the government "had previously studied the different methods of execution and found no reason to change from the current method used, that is, by hanging."
Singapore law states that the convicted criminal "shall be hanged by the neck till he is dead," Wong said in a reply to a question from an MP on whether Singapore would change the method of execution from hanging to lethal injection.
