Six men from the same family were sentenced to hang for staging a vendetta ambush in 2002 that killed 22 people from another clan in southern Egypt.
Witnesses said the six reacted calmly from inside a cage when the judge read out the verdict in a criminal court in Sohag, which has jurisdiction over the area where the August 10 massacre occurred outside the village of Beit Allam.
The sentence can be appealed by the six, who belong to a clan widely known as the Abdul Haleem, though some members carry the name Abdel Rahim.
They were found guilty of having blasted machine-gun fire at two mini-buses carrying Al-Hanashat family members to a Sohag court for a hearing of two relatives accused of murdering an Abdel Haleem member five months earlier. Blood feuds are common in southern Egypt.
