Six prisoners were sentenced to death in Mashad, northeast Iran, the state-controlled daily Jomhouri Islami reported.
"A number of them were planning to assassinate some officials, make contact with espionage networks and seek asylum in the United States," the paper wrote, adding that "the executions would be carried out in public."
