South African President Thabo Mbeki began his first trip to China aimed at building ties and expanding business between two countries which normalized relations less than four years ago.
Mbeki and Chinese President Jiang Zemin planned to sign an extradition treaty and an agreement on a commission to deal with cooperation - both basic building blocks of healthy bilateral ties, a diplomat said.
