SOUTH KOREA: CONSTITUTIONAL COURT TO HOLD PROCEEDING ON DEATH PENALTY

the South Korean Constitutional Court will hold a public proceeding to decide whether capital punishment is unconstitutional. The court will hear views from experts on whether the death penalty goes against human integrity and values, and violates the essence of the right to life or whether it is effective in repressing crime. South Korea’s last execution was in 1997.
