SRI LANKA: DOCTOR SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR RAPE AND MURDER OF A GARMENT FACTORY WORKER

A Sri Lankan court sentenced a medical doctor to death for the rape and murder of a young garment factory worker in 2007.
The Negombo High Court sentenced Dr. Indika Sudharsana Balage to death for the rape and murder of Chamila Dissanayake.
Dr. Balage was found guilty of raping and strangling the 23-year-old factory worker before pushing her to death from the 6th floor of the Negombo hospital. The 6th floor of the Hospital was exclusively reserved as quarters for doctors.
Medical investigations have revealed that the girl was raped and strangled before she was dragged and pushed out of the sixth floor window of the hospital.
A janitorial worker has witnessed the doctor dragging the body and testified in court.
