SRI LANKA: TWO SENTENCED TO DEATH

Colombo High Court Judge Deepali Wijesundara sentenced Gangodavilage Manoshantha and H.S. Chandana Perera to death for the murder of M.A. Nihal Gunasiri on December 31, 1994 at Kalubovila, Sri Lanka. Kahavitage Sanjeewa Perera and Kahavitage Sujeewa Perera were acquitted. According to the evidence, the two convicts committed the murder with the help of Wasantha Gomes and Samantha Perera who were deceased at the time of filing the indictment. According to the statement made to police, 20 days before the incident Gunasiri was released from jail over a murder case of Samantha Perera's relative.
