Sri Lanka's Colombo High Court sentenced to death three suspects charged with murdering a customs officer, the Island newspaper said.
The three accused - Aura Weerawanse, assistant superintendent of customs, Vajira Indrajith and Saman Udayakantha - were condemned by the Colombo High Court in May for killing Sujith Prasanna Perera at Wedamulle, Kelaniya, a suburb of the capital Colombo, on March 24, 2002.
Sujith Prasanna Perera, assistant superintendent of the customs, was killed by two men on a motorcycle who had followed him when he was driving his car from his residence. The 33-year-old officer had reportedly received death threats, warning him to stay out of some investigations.
