Police Commissioner Ausbert Regis called for the resumption of executions in St Lucia as law enforcement authorities warned of tougher action to deal with a rising crime problem on the island. Regis said that criminals would feel the full force of the law as the authorities react to the growing crime situation. He said the resumption of hangings would serve as a deterrent for certain crimes, which were now being committed by criminals with obvious impunity.
