Survey results from the Quality of Life in Virginia Poll show that support for Virginia's death penalty has dropped. When surveyors asked respondents if they supported the death penalty, 74% agreed. This is the lowest percentage to respond in favor of the death penalty in 7 years. For the seventh consecutive year, results also show that Virginians prefer alternatives to the death penalty. When asked about the alternative of life with no possibility of parole for a minimum of 25 years combined with restitution for the victims' families, 54.8% agreed with the alternative and 40.5% disagreed.
