The Shihlin District Court had originally sentenced older brother Wang Po-chung to life imprisonment and younger brother Wang Po-ing to death, as the elder brother had confessed to his crime and guided the police to retrieve the gun and knife used to kill policeman Hung Chung-nan, and seriously wound his colleague Chang Ta-hao.
The judges ruled that Wang Po-chung, 42 and his younger brother Wang Po-ing, 41, confessed that they killed Hung and took his gun and bullets for use in a planned bank robbery as the younger Wang was NT$7 million in debt.
The attack occurred when the two Sijih-based police officers tried to conduct a random check on the Wang brothers as they were riding their scooters in a secluded alley.
The brothers attacked the policemen, with one of the two stabbing Hung more than 15 times.
