TAIWAN: COURT COMMUTES EXECUTION TO LIFE IN PRISON FOR KIDNAPPING

the Taiwan High Court commuted the death sentence of Hsu Tzu-chiang for kidnapping to life in prison. This was his seventh retrial. The court explained that the punishment was commuted because he did not play a part in killing the victim, a businessman named Huang Chun-shu, whom he and three others kidnapped for ransom in 1995.
