TAIWAN. MAN FACES DEATH PENALTY FOR POISONING ENERGY DRINKS WITH CYANIDE

Wang Ching-chan, a Taiwan national, faced the death penalty for poisoning high-energy drinks with cyanide in a botched extortion attempt that killed one man and made three more ill, prosecutors said.
Wang, 40, had committed a "ruthless" act and "caused public panic and anxiety", said Chang Hung-mo, chief prosecutor in central Taichung City.
"He placed Bullwild Energy Drinks poisoned with cyanide in 11 convenience stores, which caused one death and three injuries," Change said.
Wang, who had previously served a 10-year prison sentence for bank robbery, made a tearful confession shown on live television after he was arrested by police at his Taipei County home.
