Ten death row inmates were scheduled to be executed in September, Philippine acting Justice Secretary Merceditas Gutierrez said. The prisoners had been convicted of rape or rape with homicide and they would be executed by lethal injection unless President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo gave them a reprieve, Gutierrez told reporters. Gutierrez said the 10 inmates scheduled to die include the six inmates who were given reprieves in June.
